LTTE chief V Prabhakaran appears to be in denial about the destruction of LTTE headquarters Kilinochchi being destroyed.
In an email interview to the Chennai based Tamil magazine Nakeeran, his first since Kilinochchi fell to the Sri Lankan army, Prabhakaran says, “The Sri Lankan forces have entered parts of our homeland and are stationed in close proximity to Kilinochchi town. But, capturing Kilinochchi is just a day-dream of President Mahinda Rajapaksa”.
Prabhakaran appeared also warned that his fighters would launch a counterattack but available intelligence suggests his guerrillas are retreating to the Vanni jungles of Mullaitivu in the east.
The army chief also said the LTTE was now confined to an area of 40 kms in the embattled north of the island.
Fonseka had earlier said the army’s aim was to capture Prabhakaran, believed to be holed up in a bunker, alive.
The Sri Lankan army chief survived an LTTE suicide attack in 2006 outside his office and underwent treatment abroad after suffering serious injuries.
Last year, the army added the specialised Task Force-2 to supplement the four divisions that were engaged in attacking Mullaittivu, the headquarter of sea Tigers.
According to a newspaper report, Prabhakaran lives in a sprawling air-conditioned bunker complex, located 30 feet below the ground, and comes up to the surface only in the night to avoid detection.

Sachin Tendulkar led the Indian run chase to take India to a famous victory on the decisive day of the first Test against England. The master batsman clobbered his 41st Test hundred as India won by six wickets. The second hero on the tense day was Yuvraj Singh who proved his Test credentials with an unbeaten 85 while Tendulkar remained unconquered on 103.
Chasing a daunting 387-run target, India lost only three wickets on the day as they scripted the fourth highest successful run chase in history of Test cricket. The final two sessions of play saw India dominate proceedings with Tendulkar and Yuvraj batting with authority to swing the match completely in India’s favour shortly after tea.
India, who started the second session on a poor note losing VVS Laxman, made 91 runs after lunch without any further damage and in the post tea session, the willows of Yuvraj and Tendulkar flourished in grand style to author India’s highest run chase in the sub-continent.
Tendulkar was a picture of poise as he batted with effortless ease on a slow turning track, plundering nine boundaries in his unbeaten innings. He authored the chase, playing the sheet anchor to perfection and building vital stands with of 42 Gautam Gambhir, of 41 with Laxman (41) and finally an unbroken 162 one with Yuvraj. And in a fitting finish, a nudge down the leg side took Tendulkar to his century and India home.

Almost all Tamil film stars turned up on Saturday for a day-long fast to express solidarity with the ‘affected Tamils’ in the ongoing offensive in Sri Lanka.
The big stage was painted black. Most of the actors turned up in black attire, to show their protest to the ‘continued killings’ of Tamils in the island nation.
From the well-known to the little-known, most faces of Tamil cinema ensured they were present for a cause that has been dominating not only state politics but also national politics, with even a special envoy in the ranks of External Affairs Minister flying in to apprise the Tamil Nadu chief minister of the steps taken by the Centre on the issue.
The Nadigar Sangam (Artistes’Association) building swarmed with not only actors but also the common people who wanted to have a glimpse of their matinee idols.
The police had a tough time managing the eager onlookers.
Led by South Indian Artistes’Association president, actor-politician R Sarath Kumar, the fast saw good attendance of top stars, including Rajnikant and Kamal Haasan.
Some popular actors such as Ajith Kumar, who keep off such political issues, made available themselves. The directors and some stars had already taken out a rally on October 19 at Rameswaram.
Ajith Kumar and some others had not turned up for the day-long fast held earlier this year in support of Tamil Nadu’s right to the Rs 1,334 crore Hogenakkal project in the wake of opposition from Karnataka.
Ajith had in a recent interview to a weekly, expressed his ‘concern’ for the Tamils in Sri Lanka but played safe when he said he was ‘confident that seniors in politics knew how to bring a solution to this issue’.
Saturday’s fast lacked spark by way of the speakers underplaying their emotions, courtesy an ‘advisory’ by Sarath Kumar asking the actors to avoid any controversy.
Directors Ameer and Seeman were arrested last week for making ‘inflammatory speeches’ at the Rameswaram rally, and the actor apparently did not want his colleagues to face the music from police.
Fiery remarks made by Rajnikant during the fast for Hogenakkal landed him in trouble in his native state Karnataka following which he expressed ‘regret’.
Among those who were present for Saturday’s fast included actor-politician Vijayakant, Vijay, Vikram, Surya, Silambarasan, Radharavi, Nayantara and many others.
Actors from other states but who regularly work in Tamil films like Jairam and Charanraj were also present
