24 Jul 09 Subramaniyapuram Sasi to Direct a Movie for Vikram’s New Banner

In what might be one of the hottest news to come out of Kollywood in the recent weeks, it has been revealed that Vikram will be venturing into production under the Reel Life Productions Banner. His debut venture will be handled by new Kollywood sensation ‘Subramaniapuram’ Sasikumar.

But, this is not a sudden development as it might look like. Sasikumar has admitted that this idea has been in the mind of Vikram for more than a year now. The seeds for this venture were first sowed when Vikram happened to catch the ‘Kangal Irandaal’ song from Subramaniapuram prior to its release. He immediately fell in love with the song and the way it was shot, instantly becoming a fan of Sasikumar. He had requested Sasikumar to direct a film for him right after seeing the song. Naturally, Sasikumar was a bit apprehensive about the offer as he was not yet sure about the success of his debut venture. He expressed his doubts to Vikram, who reassured him and also handed over a blank cheque, sealing a gentleman’s agreement that they would do a film together some time.

Of course, it did not happen immediately. Sasikumar got busy with Naadodigal and Vikram had his films to take care of. But, over the course of the year, they used to meet very often. Every meeting was a closely guarded secret. As Sasikumar described it ‘we were like young lovers afraid of being spotted together’.

With all other commitments out of the way now, Sasikumar is ready to kick off Reel Life Productions’ first venture. He said that many other producers had approached him with big offers, but none of them could replace the belief that was placed in him by Vikram by handing over a blank cheque.

About the film, he said that Naadodigal-fame Abhinaya would be the heroine of the film. More importantly, he added that neither Vikram nor himself would be seen even in a single scene of the film. The rest of the cast would consist of new comers. Let’s await this unique union of actor-turned-producer and ace director.
